Mubarak and his colleagues took this opportunity to look at the current Ugandan situation and, in particular, the impact of Ebola on its epidemics and their possible effects on the national health effort.

In his letter, Mubarak explains how Ebola, now considered the number one cause of death in the world, is currently not confined to West Africa, but spreads through “multiple sources,” including humans, to Nigeria, Liberia and Guinea.

He writes that it appears the latest Ebola outbreak in Africa, in which a woman who had been infected with Ebola from Sierra Leone contracted the virus, was not isolated and died from the infectious wound until weeks after being introduced into the country, when all her blood and medical kit from her family was taken. As a result, “the woman was treated and vaccinated on the same day.
(This woman died in Liberia on July 11, 2013 and was not admitted to the care of her family.)
